It all begins with an idea
My work begins with curiosity.
Curiosity about people, their stories and the emotions that shape us.
Growing up in East Germany during the final years of the Cold War taught me that there is often far more to people than the lives they outwardly present.
That awareness continues to shape the way I observe the world today.
Working primarily in acrylic with palette knives, I use vivid colour, symbolism and expressive form to explore identity, memory, freedom, vulnerability, humour and resilience. Whether inspired by history, mythology, contemporary London or everyday life, each painting begins with a simple question:
What story does this person carry?
I don't paint people simply to be looked at — I paint them to be understood.
Every painting invites viewers to pause before forming conclusions.
We often judge one another from a single glance, yet beneath every face lies a history of experiences, hopes, fears and quiet acts of courage.
My aim is to create paintings that encourage curiosity rather than certainty, inviting viewers to look beyond appearances and discover something of themselves in the process.
I believe art has a unique ability to create empathy.
If someone stands before one of my paintings and feels recognised, understood or quietly less alone, then the painting has fulfilled its purpose.
