  • Background

Carina grew up in East Germany during the 1980's, at the height of the Cold War.

To escape the grim reality of the monotonous and tightly controlled daily life, she immersed herself from early childhood in the stories and illustrations of books, borrowed from her small, local library.

The creative and colourful drawings of the nations beyond the German Democratic Republic captured Carina’s imagination and in order to keep the pictures before having to return the books, she started to re-create the images.

In 1989, the Berlin Wall fell and with that, the communist regime, suppression and a pre-determined life.

Carina was accepted to join the art workshop of renowned East German Graphic Artist Dieter Huth in 1994.

He became her primary mentor; introducing and teaching different mediums such as charcoal, ink, acrylic and oil, focusing on nature and human anatomy studies.

After graduating Art School in Germany in 1998, Carina moved to London the same year to continue her education in Art.

Besides building a life and commercial career, she continued to focus on her twin passions: painting and writing.

Today, her works center around exploring the opposing sides of nature and humans:

the purity of the physical combined with the variety and complexity of emotions and feelings.

She uses the vibrancy of all shades and colours, their energy and symbolism as visual vocabulary to reflect the intricate and delicate dance of the physical and emotional spectrum of humans.

    Her preferred medium is acrylic.

Currently Carina is working on a series of paintings exploring grief and her first written and illustrated children's book.
